CAMERA GIMBAL

Project Overview
I designed and developed a simplified face-tracking gimbal camera system that automatically keeps users centered within the frame. This module was created as a standalone project but also serves as a critical component for integration into larger projects, such as the SAMI Robot.

Process

  • Programmed control logic using Arduino modules

  • Designed and fabricated gimbal components in SolidWorks, manufactured via 3D printing

  • Integrated Google MediaPipe for real-time face detection and tracking

  • Linked AI pose-tracking outputs to gimbal actuation for continuous alignment

Results

  • The camera tracks and centers on the user’s face in real time

  • If no user is detected, the system returns to a neutral home position until a new subject enters the frame

  • Played a critical role in the SAMI Robot project by stabilizing the robot’s head and ensuring the user remained in frame during interactions

Skill used:

  • Arduino

  • CAD (Solidworks)

  • Soldering
